The Artist
Oleksandr Meshcheriak
Oleksandr Meshcheriak is a Ukrainian contemporary artist working at the intersection of painting and collage.
His artistic practice explores inner freedom, fragility, memory, desire, and the tension between the human body and the chaos of modern reality.
Combining abstraction, fragmented figuration, and symbolic imagery, Meshcheriak creates multilayered compositions where emotion and structure coexist.
His works often balance darkness and luminosity, vulnerability and resistance, transforming personal and collective experience into visual metaphors.
Living and working in Ukraine.
Artist Statement
My artistic practice exists between silence and inner tension, transcending time and dimensions.
Through painting, collage, layered textures, and fragmented forms, I explore states of memory, vulnerability, transformation, and unstable identity — the movement of personality through existential challenges.
The black space in my works is not a background.
It is a medium of emergence — a depth from which images appear, dissolve, and reform.
I work intuitively, allowing compositions to evolve through accumulation, interruption, and destruction. Human figures, symbols, organic fragments, and abstract structures coexist within a shifting visual system where order and chaos remain in constant tension.
Perception
The sign “OM”, which also reflects my initials, functions both as a personal signature and as a symbol of concentration, resonance, and inner vibration. This duality reflects the foundation of my artistic language — the intersection between the personal and the universal.
My works are not direct narratives.
They are spaces of psychological presence, existing between materiality and disappearance, noise and silence, control and collapse.
I perceive painting as a process of revealing hidden states rather than illustrating visible reality.
What we are capable of comprehending is only a small fragment of the infinite Universe — something we may touch, but only each to the extent of our own perception.
